Parlan is the magician who greets the newcomers to the monastery. He takes their gold donations. After this is done, Parlan assigns and oversees the work of the novices. For magicians, Parlan teaches the first three Circles of Magic and also teaches them how to make generic spells (for example Sleep or Heal Light Wounds).
