Khorinis is the name of the main city of the island of Khorinis, and, during the peak of its prominence and wealth, one of the most famous and important cities in the Kingdom of Myrtana. During these times, it was governed by Larius, a royal governor.

However, after the war with the Orcs escalated, draining the kingdom's force and the fall of the Barrier, the city gradually lost its prominence and started to decay.

Overview

Khorinis is a harbor city, with a well developed harbor and port facilities. It is divided into three districts, each governed by its own unwritten laws.

Port

The port is the slum of the city - the poorest and arguably most dangerous denizens of the city inhabit self-constructed wooden houses and the streets being rarely something more than dirt. The port is the center of all illegal activities of the city, as well as the main source of food after Onar has declared independence from the King.

There are several places of interest in the city, the most important ones being the tavern, the 'Red Lantern' public house, a shipyard, store depot and Halvor's fish stand.

Lower City

The Lower City is a middle class district, with cobbled stone streets and brick houses, but still not as well kept or built as the upper quarter. This section of Khorinis is inhabited by manufacturers, traders and soldiers as well as all those who could afford it. Also, the main town gates are located in the Lower City.

There are several places of interest in this district:

The Gallow-place

The morbidly named plaza in the northern part of the city is one of the main centers of night-time activity, the second being Coragon's tavern. Here, the gallow is located, as well as the town's garrison, housing the militiamen and the town's armory, as well as Hannah's guesthouse and the occassional Southern Isles merchant, at the time of the Barrier's collapse, Abuyin.

Market Place

Located to the east of the plaza, the market is the main trading area in Khorinis, with various merchants showcasing and selling their stocks to all who can afford them.

There was a time in Khorinis' history, that almost anything could be bought, for a price, on this market.

Coragon's Tavern

A remarkable point in the city, Coragon's tavern is one place where members of the middle and upper class mix regularly, provided they have money. The tavern is the second center of nighttime activity in Khorinis, the gallow-place beeing the other.

The second point of interest near the tavern is a shrine dedicated to Adanos, god of balance, which is always taken care of by a Water Mage.

The Craftsman Alley

Located in the southern part of the city near the gate and passage into the uper city, this street is where all the master craftsmen built their shops and live. The tradition of craftsmanship is as old as Khorinis itself and all masters here abide to it.

At the time of the fall of the Barrier, five masters had their shops here: Constantino the alchemist, Harad the blacksmith, Thorben the carpenter, Matteo the vendor and Bosper the bowmaker.

The Upper Quarter

The wealthiest and best protected district of Khorinis, the Upper City housed the elite of Khorinian population as well as being the residence of Governor Larius, his aides and several influential merchants.

Economy

When the Barrier was standing and there were psisoners brought from the mainland and the King's boats take the magic ore from the mining colony, it was a very rich city and there were much people coming from the mainland.

But, when the Barrier falled, the ships were coming from the mainland fewer every day. The last ship that arrived the harvour of Khorinis was the Esmeralda, in which Lord Hagen brought a group of Paladins who have to take the magic ore to the mainland.

The only comerce that the city of Khorinis had after that was the supplies that the farmers like Akil and Lobart brougth to the merchants in the city.
