The Hashishin (singular "Hashishi") is an ancient tribe inhabiting Varant, these humans are the followers of Beliar, who entrusted him with their protection after the lands were flooded by Adanos and all plantlife extinguished, desertifying the lands. The Hashishin are deeply religious, completely devoted to their religion, led by Zuben, the head of the Dark Mages and Beliar's avatar on earth.
History
The Hashishin and the Nomads are descendant from the original ancient tribes that inhabited Varant and survived the flood Adanos sent to cleanse the lands. While Akascha and his followers left for Nordmar to establish a new civilization there, the nomads stayed behind and rebuilt their state.
However, the split in their society came soon, as Zuben claimed the Staff of the Eternal Wanderer and established a new society of the Hashishin. The split quickly worsened and two tribes clashed, all equally strong and unable to defeat the other. The state of prolonged tribal warfare lasted many years, and eventually, the Hashishin managed to defeat the nomads, establish their reign and mounting an offensive against Myrtana, led by Lukkor. However, they underestimated the enemy and were outmaneuvered by Lee and Rhobar II, who pushed them back and aided the nomads in reclaiming their power. This was a temporary state of affairs, as the orc invasion begun and they invaded Varant, aiding the Hashishin to regain their power.
However, as the Second Orc War came to a closure, their fate was sealed by the nameless hero, who slain Zuben. The loss of the leader caused a gradual dissolution and disappearance of the Hashishin, who never appeared again.
Overview
The Hashishin are deeply religious people, worshipping Beliar. They have a darker skin tone than the inhabitants of Myrtana, and speak with a peculiar manner. They are masters of deception and manipulation, often preferring to bribe and lie their way through obstacles rather than direct engagements.
The followers of Beliar are led by Zuben, who exercises authoritarian rule over his people from his palace in Ishtar. He relays his orders to different twons through Dark Mages and relies on nearly fanatical obedience of his people to him as Beliar's avatar to solidify his rule.
They are also extremely capable fighters, creators and masters of the exotic twin sword combat style, which they use to devastating effects against their foes. They rely on speed and agility to avoid blows, as the scorching climate of the desert limits greatly the usability of heavy armors.
Their dominant color is violet.
The economy of the Hashishin is centered around trade with the Southern Isles and Myrtana (after it was conquered by the orcs). Their main export goods are nomad slaves, raw materials, gold and artifacts. They also rely on visitors to Varant to boost their economy, and maintain prominent, famous arenas in almost every city to draw visitors. One of the potentates in this trade is Gonzales, a highly influential merchant and politician.
