Focus Stones

The focus stone is a magical artifact, whose design reaches far into ancient times. In essence, it is a large crystal in a golden frame, that can be used to channel magical power or store and release it on command.
The focus stones originated in ancient times. Originally, the formula for charging it was extremely complex and known to a select few. However, with time, it became less complex and easier to learn, eventually becoming very commonplace. Yet, with refinement of rune magic, it became obsolete for such powerful artifacts to be used, and the formula was gradually phased out from curriculums of adepts of magic arts.

The 5 Focus Stones
The Barrier on Khorinis was an example of the power of the Focus Stones. For the purpose of creating the magical Barrier, the 12 best magicians from the kingdom of King Rhobar II used 5 focus stones to create it. They used the book called the Almanac, which explained how a Focus Stone can be used.
Unfortunately , the archdemon called Sleeper used the massive magical powers from the focus stones and used it to control the Barrier. He made the Barrier much bigger, and by making the Barrier bigger, his orc village and his temple also entered the barrier. But because the Barrier was bigger, the mages also were trapped inside the Barrier.
To stop the convicts from using these powerful artifacts,the mages hide them in special places and protected them with powerful magic. The place of the Focus Stones are the following:
- 1. The Focus Stone from the troll canyon. The troll canyon is north of the Barrier. As the name says, the canyon is protected by a big troll and some small goblins. Various hunters tried to kill the beast but only the hero and Diego managed to do that. The Focus Stone is actually into a cave near the canyon, closed by a which and protected by some harpies.
- 2. The Focus Stone from the Old Citadel. The Old Citadel is on the way to the Swamp Camp. The bridge of the Citadel was protected by an magic golem (probably summoned by one of the 12 mages) and the citadel itself protected by harpies. Together with Lester, the hero managed to take the Focus Stone using Sleeper's magic.
- 3. The Focus Stone from the Ruined Monastery. The Ruined Monastery was in south of the Colony. It was inhabited a long time ago by some monks which their god gave them transformation magic. Its gate was closed and nobody managed besides the hero, who used the old transformation magic of the monks to transform into a Meatbug and to enter into a hole of the wall. Together with Gorn, he defeated the snappers and the young troll that lived in the monastery and he took the focus stone.
- 4. The Focus Stone from the Stonehenge. The Stonehenge is on the way to the orc lands. The Focus is hided in a cave and the cave itself was protected with an curse raised by one of the mages.The curse turned the first human that was fool enough to enter the cave into an undead being. One of the Ore Barons, who was enjoying hunting orcs entered this cave and felt to the curse. After him many tried to defeat this creature,which was invincible but they felt to his power transforming themselves into undead beings. The hero with Milten however managed to kill the foul beings. The hero used a magic scroll from Milten which was able to instantly kill the guardian. After the defeat of the guardians,the hero took the Focus and Milten took an orc amulet.
- 5. The Focus Stone from Mountain cliff. This focus stone was exactly up from the temple hill of the Swamp Camp. It is unknown what protection had because the novice Nyras first managed to get the focus.
Use of the focus stones throughout the days of the Barrier
The Swamp Camp were planning to invocate the sleeper and to call for his aide.For this they needed great magical power and a way to unite all this magical powers. They raised the magical powers of the novices using minecrawler secretion. They searched for a Focus stone which will channel all the novices power in their master Y'Berion. The first Novice which was sent for the Focus Stone was Nyras but he went crazy and kept it for himself. The hero was sent next to find the artifact and he was obliged to defeat Nyras in combat so he can get the Focus Stone.
After getting the necessary secretion and the Focus Stone the hero was sent to get the book Almanac which shows instruction of how a Focus Stone can used.The Camp sent the novice Talas to take the Almanac from the Fire Mages but he was robbed by black goblins.
After getting the necessary ingredients the Sect Camp start their summoning but unfortunately the sleeper showed only an orc building and Y'Berion died because of the high amount of magical power he channeled.
After the camp split up in two sides, CorAngar, the new leader of the Camp sent the hero to deliver the Focus Stone and the Almanac to the Water Mages. The escape plan of the water mages consist in detonating the Barrier using the powerful magic powers of the ore. They needed the Focus Stone for channeling the magical powers of the ore mound. The high mage of the Circle of Water, Saturas, sent the hero to find the other 4 Focus Stones. After finding the Focus Stones, Saturas sent the hero to convince the Fire Mages to join the Water Mages and help them in the process of detonating the Barrier. Unfortunately the Fire Mages got killed and Saturas was forced to sent the hero to Xardas the necromancer. Xardas refused to help the Water Mages, saying that the Sleeper is the one who is controlling the delicate magical structure. To defeat the archdemon, the hero recharged the runeblade Uriziel with the magical powers of the ore mound from the new camp, leaving the mages with no chance of using their plan.
The Focus Stones after the destruction of the Barrier
After the destruction of the Barrier,the hero meet again with the water mages which were furious at him(at least Saturas was). He was charged by Merdarion in Jharkendar to find the five old teleport stones of the ancients and to activate them using the focus stones.
The Focus Stones on the mainland
After the hero set sail on the mainland, the Water Mages escaped from Khorinis using the power of the Focus stones, by teleporting themselves to the mainland.
The Focus Stone of Xardas
Another known focus was possessed by Xardas. He used the focus stone to trap all the runic magic from the world in it, thus giving a huge advantage to the orcs. There is no reference about how did Xardas gained this magical object. The magical power stored in this Focus Stone after the trapping of the Rune magic was used to activate the furnace from the Hammer Clan and so to destroy the artifacts of Adanos.
