Fall of the Barrier

The Fall of the Barrier is the result of many extremely complex magical effects, which only the highest mages, or perhaps only Xardas himself can understand. But, what we know for sure is that it occurred when the Sleeper had been banned from this world, back to the realm of Beliar, because it was the Sleeper who perverted the creation of the Barrier, making it grow too large.

The sudden release of such an enormous amount of magic energy had an adverse effect on the flora and fauna within the Valley of Mines. As a result, much of the land was destroyed or changed, though the Dragons may well have exacerbated the terrain's mutation.

The effect on the areas outside the barrier was the extreme migration of convicts and cut-throats, as well as some very dangerous animal species, such as the Dragon Snappers.
